Part 1 — Foundation chain, first rows and the main panel
Part 2 — Seaming, pleats, top edge and chain strap
Materials
- MakromeCity raffia yarn in natural beige
- Gold chain bag strap with clasps
- Crochet hook (use the size recommended on your yarn label)
- Stitch markers
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle (optional, for weaving in ends)
Step-by-Step Tutorial
1. Get Your Raffia Ready
The Bodrum Bag is made with our natural beige raffia yarn. Its light sheen and crisp twist give the bag a summery, structured look while staying soft to the touch.
2. Make the Foundation Chain
Make a slip knot and crochet a foundation chain. The chain sets the height of the bag, so keep your tension even and check the length before you start the first row.
3. Work the First Rows
Work back and forth in rows. As the rows build up, they form the ribbed texture that runs across the bag. Follow Part 1 of the video for the exact stitches.
4. Crochet the Main Panel and Measure
Keep going until you have one long rectangular panel. Lay it flat and measure it. The panel is folded to make the front and back of the bag, so check the size before you start seaming.
5. Fold and Seam the Sides
Fold the panel and crochet the open edges together to form the bag. Turn the bag the right way out to check that the seams are neat and the ribs line up.
6. Mark the Pleats
Lay the bag flat and use a measuring tape to space the pleats evenly along the opening. Fold each pleat and hold it in place with stitch markers. The pleats give the Bodrum Bag its soft, gathered shape.
7. Crochet the Top Edge
Crochet around the opening, working through all layers of each pleat to lock them in place. Remove the stitch markers as you go.
8. Attach the Chain Strap
Clip the chain strap to both top corners of the bag. Weave in any loose ends and your bag is ready to wear.
9. Final Look
And done! The ribbed raffia, soft pleats and gold chain make the Bodrum Bag an easy everyday piece for summer days and evenings out.
Tips & Variations
- Make a smaller clutch by starting with a shorter chain and a narrower panel.
- Add a fabric lining before attaching the strap for extra structure.
- Swap the chain for a crocheted raffia strap for a fully handmade look.
- Add a magnetic snap inside the opening to keep the bag closed.
